believes that with China's WTO membership, U.S. software firms will also be able to better police software piracy. The software industry estimates that 95 percent of all business applications in China in 1998 were pirated, meaning that these businesses owe the industry $1.2 billion in licensing revenue.

International Data Corp. (6/00)
said that in 1999, China's IT market was worth over 11 billion dollars and will grow to more than 14 billion this year. IDC predicted China's IT market will more than triple by 2004, when it will account for almost one-third of Asia-Pacific's IT market.
The study noted that 88 percent of China's IT sales is hardware, but said demand for software and other services is expected to grow.
